Interview 0003

Interviewee: Anonymous
Date: 2014-11-15
Originating board: [r9k]

Why do you visit 4chan and specifically [r9k]?

4chan is my main form of social activity, has been the case since about 2010 or so. Prior to that I only visited occasionally while posting on other forums, which have since died.

As for /r9k/, I actually don't visit it that much, but I originally started going to it because it has lots of men in my age group with a similar life style (virginity, nogf, etc)

I visit 4chan to socialize, procrastinate or waste time, or look at porn. I'd say that covers it.

Who do you relate to the most, Wojak or Pepe?

Pepe I'd say

Why? He seems more outgoing.

I'm pretty good at keeping up appearances in public. I've learned how to immitate normalcy over the years in order to not stand out. Basically I dont' feel as socially crippled as a lot of other robots. I was very anxious as a teenager, but my time in college made me a lot more laid back. These days I am more at peace with my life style and can find humor in it.

You're what they would call a cyborg?

I wouldn't go that far, I'm not normal at all. Like a terminator, I'm 100% machine with a fake human exterior.

What is a normie?

Normies are people who don't spend all their free time on 4chan, basically. They have a social life, might even have a viable love life, tend not to have more mainstream senses of humor and political views. Not saying they're completely milquetoast and without quirks, but they're the kind of person who sees /b/ and then gets weirded out or offended. Once nothing on 4chan can shock you, you're not a normie anymore.

What is a robot?

/r9k/ poster, some of the least normal people on the site and have a peculiar pride in it. Robots are also marked by a trademark cynicism or bitterness, most have particularly rocky adolescences and bad histories with women or socializing in general. Essentially, a robot is a social recluse who spends his time on /r9k/

Are you a robot?

I don't know if I'd say I am, as I mentioned earlier I don't visit /r9k/ a whole lot compared to other boards. It's a place I only come to now and then to be among "my own kind" in a way, rather than talking about my interests or looking for a way to kill time. I know if I visit the board I will find sympathetic ears and familiar stories. So even if I don't exactly call /r9k/ home, I feel a kinship with its posters.

What do you think about celebrities (real and internet ones) appropriating 4chan culture and sharing it with everyone else?

It's not really a new phenomenon, the only real difference is now the mainstream is more aware of where those memes come from. Rickrolls and lolcats and other memes of days gone past were "appropriated" by the mainstream without having even the slightest clue of their orogins, and I did feel a kind of smugness at that, but also a twinge of annoyance. It's hard to explain, it's like having your terirtory encroached upon. Like if you had a favorite coffee shop that was really quiet and out of the way, and suddenly one day you find a bunch of Chad Thundercocks sipping their chai lattes and talking way to loudly, maybe flirting with that nice quiet barrista girl you shared the quiet with. It rustles my jimmies, basically. But since I barely have anything to do with the mainstream I can easily avoid it, just close the tab and poof it's gone. It's only when it gets dragged back to 4chan that I start getting annoyed. Worse than stuff being appropriated is when it brings newfags in.

Do you have anything else that you would like to say?

Take it easy.
